Before buying a frame, compare its inner dimension with the centimeters listed on your poster’s product page. The name A4 or A3 is a handy reference, but it doesn’t replace this measurement. Reading the size selector dimensions
The dimensions commonly shown on product pages are A4: 20.8 × 29.5 cm; A3: 29.5 × 41.9 cm; A2: 41.9 × 59.2 cm; A1: 59.2 × 84.1 cm; A0: 84.1 × 118.9 cm. These rounded measurements are guidelines: check the dimensions and available sizes on your poster’s product page.
For a horizontal illustration, the width and height are reversed compared with a vertical one. Always check the orientation and dimensions on the product you order. Only the sizes actually offered in its selector are available.
Checking a frame you already own
Measure the inner space meant for the print and check the dimensions given by the frame’s manufacturer. The outer width of the frame molding is not the same as the space reserved for the poster. A slightly smaller print can leave a margin; a larger print should never be forced into the frame.
Taking the mat into account
A mat changes the visible area and the total dimension of the frame. Its opening must hold the print in place while keeping the important elements of the image visible, especially any lettering near the edges. Check the measurements of the opening and the frame before buying.
